Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Dr. John comes from a long line of loggers from the Oregon and Washington area. He broke that mold when he decided on optometry as his career. He graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon and went on to serve for the United States Air Force as an optometrist. He was appointed Optometry Clinic Director at the Kadena USAF base Medical Clinic in Okinawa, Japan. Of note, he is the third of five generations of “John Markhams” to serve honorably and voluntarily in the military. Upon being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he moved to Arizona where he went into private practice.

From patients with complex corneal transplants and keratoconus to routine needs, he has over 35 years of successfully helping restore vision to over 100,000 patients. Dr. John Markham has years of experience in co-management of pre-operative and post-operative care for cataract and retinal disease. He also handles a large volume of patients with diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. Dr. John is well known for his charismatic and humorous bedside manner.
