Dr. Scott Markham, “Dr. Scott”, is one of M&M’s founding partners. He specializes in the disease and surgery of the eye. His surgical interests include advanced refractive cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, and eyelid surgery. He has completed over 10,000 cataract surgeries throughout his career.
He received his osteopathic medical degree from Midwestern University in 2002. Following medical school, he completed two years of general surgery residency at the University of New Mexico, followed by three years of ophthalmology residency at Michigan State University, where he also served as chief resident.
Dr. Scott is proud to have been raised in Prescott, where his father, Dr. John Markham (Dr. John), started the practice over 30 years ago. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with honors from Arizona State University in 1997. From age 19 until he graduated from ASU, he worked for the Donor Network of Arizona surgically harvesting human eyes for corneal transplantation. This experience ignited Dr. Scott’s interest in surgery.
He has been recognized as a top surgeon surgeon and entrepreneur in the field of ophthalmology. He is the medical director and co-founder of Vistamerica S de RL in Mexico. Vistamerica distributes Dr. Scott’s own line of implants and pharmaceuticals for cataract surgery and clinical ophthalmology. He is also the co-founder of Consent.Solutions, an educational and consent software that has revolutionized the way patients are educated for their upcoming eye surgery. He has also served as a primary investigating doctor for several FDA clinical trials. He is an educator at heart who has trained many optometric and medical students over the years.
One of Dr. Scott’s proudest endeavors is the annual “Mission for Vision”, which he co-founded in 2009. Along with Dr. Scott, a team including surgical residents from Michigan and attending surgeons from around the US, travel to Caborca, Mexico, to provide cataract surgery, laser surgery, and glasses to hundreds of people in need.
Dr. Scott’s personal interests include family, flying, golfing, and traveling. He is a private pilot who also speaks fluent Spanish.
