Dr. Mortenson graduated Magna Cum Laude from Utah State University and earned his MD from the University of Utah School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Utah. He served as an ophthalmologist in the United States Air Force, including a role as Chief of Ophthalmology at Luke Air Force Base, before beginning his private practice in Prescott, bringing advanced ophthalmic care to the community.

Dr. Mortenson is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a former President of the Arizona Ophthalmological Association.
