Each patient’s needs are unique, which is why we offer several lens options to replace damaged lenses removed through our cataract surgical procedures.
Patients undergoing cataract surgery have choices in the type of lens they prefer to replace their damaged lenses. Below is a breakdown of each lens we offer.
Standard Lens
The standard Intraocular Lens (IOL) is a monofocal type specifically designed to strengthen vision at one distinct distance, predominantly for far-sighted vision. Despite its effectiveness for cataract correction and distance vision enhancement, most patients might still need glasses to augment their near and intermediate vision.
This conventional lens enables a single focus for distance vision. Consequently, individuals seeking to correct their vision for both close and distant distances may still need to rely on eyewear for optimal vision. This makes standard lenses an excellent selection for those comfortable incorporating glasses into certain activities. Our team of cataract experts is readily available to guide you through your choices and help determine the most suitable lens for your specific needs and anticipated postoperative results. The standard mono-focal lens is typically fully covered by insurance.
Understanding the Benefits of Modern Lens Technology
As we grow older, the natural lens in our eyes gradually stiffens and becomes discolored. This condition is called a cataract. Cataract surgery involves removing and replacing the cloudy lens with an intraocular lens (IOL). Once the surgery is complete, your cataract is gone, and your vision is improved with a new lens.
Thanks to technological advancements, various types of lenses can now be tailored to meet your specific vision requirements and lifestyle preferences.
Multifocal / Trifocal IOLs
Clear Vision at All Distances
Upgrade your vision with advanced multifocal and trifocal lenses. These premium IOLs provide sharp near, intermediate, and distance vision while reducing the need for glasses, allowing you to enjoy daily activities without limitations.
Light Adjustable Lens
The Light Adjustable Lens™ is the only intraocular lens (IOL) that can be adjusted after implantation, allowing for customized vision enhancement once healing is complete. If you and your doctor choose the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL), you’ll first have standard cataract surgery, followed by light treatments to fine-tune your vision to your preferences.

Toric Lenses
Distance and Astigmatic Correction
A toric lens implant is designed for cataract patients with significant corneal astigmatism. It is a great choice for those looking to minimize or eliminate the need for distance glasses after cataract surgery. However, it doesn’t address presbyopia, meaning reading glasses will still be necessary for close-up tasks.
ORA (OPTIWAVE ANALYSIS)
Groundbreaking Technology to Enhance Vision Quality During Cataract Surgery
M&M Eye Institute is excited to introduce ORA, the Optiwave Refractive Analyzer, an FDA-approved technology that enhances vision during cataract surgery.
- ORA uses a low-intensity light beam to analyze your eye’s optical properties during surgery. This allows our surgeons to select the most accurate intraocular lens and improve astigmatism correction, providing more precise results than traditional methods.
- ORA is ideal for those seeking highly accurate outcomes, advanced lens implants (like multifocal or toric), precise astigmatism correction, or those with a history of PRK or LASIK.
